Medical & mobility guide for visitors to Japan

How to Find a Clinic and Accessible Taxi for Tourists in Japan

Find a foreigner-friendly hospital or English-speaking clinic by symptom, location and language, then check non-emergency medical taxi options.

Three steps to get medical care in Japan

1

Search by symptom, place or language

Use your current location or destination to find a clinic. Confirm that the clinic can support your language before visiting.

2

Call the clinic before you go

Ask about opening hours, appointments, language support, payment methods and documents needed for travel insurance.

3

Arrange accessible transport

For non-emergency visits, search for a medical taxi or wheelchair-accessible taxi. Confirm availability and fares directly with the operator.

Visiting a clinic and receiving medicine

In Japan, medicine may be dispensed at an outside pharmacy or, at some clinics, inside the medical facility (in-house dispensing). In-house dispensing can reduce travel, but it is not available everywhere. Ask the clinic before your visit.

What to bring

  • Passport or another form of identification
  • Travel insurance policy and assistance contact
  • Names or photos of medicines you take
  • When symptoms began and allergy information

Costs and payment

Visitors may need to pay the full cost at the counter. Some clinics do not accept credit cards, so ask about cash, cards and estimated fees before visiting.
